lists

I am always finding lists that I have made. Lists of anything. Now I have decided to share my lists with you, even if you do not care about them. I don’t want to get rid of them, but I also do not want them hanging around. Maybe I’ll include pictures of the original list as well. We’ll see. Just be prepared, there are lots of them.

Bands I Like:

  • Casey Donohue Band – the bass player is from Meridian, Texas
  • Kyle Bennett Band
  • Eli Young Band
  • Cody Gill Band – from Stephenville
  • Britt Lloyd Band
  • Cory Morrow – Austin
  • Walt Wilkins
  • Bob Schneider
  • Rick O’toole
  • Wade Bowen

“A good snapshot stops a moment from running away.” -Eudora Welty

Jazz/Blues artists to look up:

  • Chet Baker
  • Bobby Hackett
  • Jackie Gleason “Music is for Lovers”
  • Miles Davis “Kind of Blue”
  • Johnny Hartman

Words that begin with “H”:

habituate – to accustom; to make familiar by frequent use or practice or habit; to familiarize.

habitude – customary manner or mode of living, feeling, or acting.

habitué – (hä·bē·twā) – a frequenter of any place or type of place.

hagiology – the worship of saints

haplology – the utterance of only one of two similar adjacent syllables or sounds, resulting in the contraction of a word, as in idly for idlely.

hebitude – dullness; lethargy; stupidity.

hedonism – the doctrine that the chief good and man’s primary moral duty lie in the pursuit of pleasure; the psychological theory that man’s actions are governed by a desire to experience pleasant feelings and avoid pain. (Not a doctrine that I believe, I would like to note.)

haematic – of or pertaining to blood; contained in the blood; acting on the blood, as a medicine.

hemeralopia – blind by day, a condition of the eyes where distinct vision is possible only at night or in dim light.

I am sure this isn’t the last post of notes (oh, the irony).  It feels nice to have finished another blog post since I haven’t been writing much here lately. It’s also hard to believe that it’s November already. Mom’s art show is right around the corner and there is really so much to do still. More posting to come, just keep a look out or check Facebook to see if there are any new blog notifications on my profile.

I ran across a bunch more lists while finding more things to decide to pack or store…

Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence. True friendship is a plant of slow growth, and must undergo and withstand the shocks of adversity before it is entitled to the appellation.

-George Washington

I also found the number to a Sears-Roebuck kit house that I really liked. Which of course I like a TON of them! It’s hard to pick a favorite…

#187 ($1,273)

Photo note on hands: Think about how the hands affect a portrait. Clenched, open, curled, will subtly convey how the person feels in their own state of mind.

Maidenhair Fern (adiantum raddianum)

Grows well in ferneries where moisture is kept up. Give filtered light and keep moist, but not wet. Trim off any dead fronds, and rotate once a month if near a window to promote even growth. They can be fertilized in early spring with a liquid type fertilizer. If it starts to die off almost completely, cut off to about 1″ and sear the ends with a lit match.

Things I look for in a guy:

  • That he has a heart for God
  • He wants to take time to get to know me for me
  • Isn’t afraid to hang out with my parents and family and friends
  • He has to be able to pass the GAT (Guillory Aptitude Test)

Places I either love to photograph or really want to photograph:

  • Nelson Fine Arts Museum – ASU campus – Tempe – This place has great lighting in the stairs going down into the museum!
  • I have always wanted to photograph the Navajo Indian Reservation east of the 101 at various times and states of weather from the vantage point of the highway overpass.

I need to read some poetry from Gerard Manly-Hopkins at the suggestion of my best friend, Rachel. She recommended him forever ago, and here I am finally finding the note again.

Now playing:

  • Ella Fitzgerald – “I’m Making Believe”
  • Perry Como – “A” You’re Adorable
  • “The News”
  • “Wayfaring Stranger”
  • “On The Road Again”
  • “Valley Song”
  • Bright Eyes

A good movie:

“Since You Went Away” (1944) Starring Claudette Colbert, Jennifer Jones, and Joseph Cotten

How to measure a lamp for a lamp shade:

  1. Measure the lamp from top to bottom and multiply by .75. This is the tallest the shade should be, but a few inches less is alright as well.
  2. For a round base, measure the lamp bottom straight across then multiply by 2 to arrive at the shade’s appropriate width.
  3. For square bases, measure the bottom of the lamp on a diagonal and multiply by 2.

Two colors that I like from Benjamin Moore:

grey: rushing river #1574

neutral: veil cream #PT-370

Quotes:

Art is a collaboration between God and the artist, and the less the artist does the better. -Andre Gide

Tis the most tender part of love, each other to forgive.

The heads of strong old age are beautiful beyond all grace of youth.

A man thinks that by mouthing hard words he understands hard things. -Herman Melville

A painting in a museum hears more ridiculous opinions than anything else in the world. -Edmond de Goncourt

Maybe kissing is sort of like life’s coffee…

The surprising thing about young fools is how many survive to become old fools.

To love is to receive a glimpse of heaven.

A great marriage is not when the ‘perfect couple’ comes together. It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

A snippet off of another list…

A headline of the El Paso Hearald: “Inmate Beauty Pageant Winner Is Now a Fugitive.”       (Hilarious.)
